2011-12 SEASON MATCH REPORTS

03/09/11    home THE BEECHES 4 CORINIUM1

The Beeches Res started the season well with a good win against local rivals Corinium and it was two returning players that were to score the four goals that secured the three points

Dan Perring and Sean Wiltshire scored 2 a piece, Perring statred the scoring when he was put in on goal through a pass from Hanks, Perring slotting the ball home to amke it 1-0

His second was a thirty yard screamer which gave the away keeper no chance of saving, good debuts from youngsters Robinson and Sweatland on both wings saw them in the thick of the action.

Corinium then gave themselves a life line when their player rdoe 4/5 tackles to find himself clean through on goal and he cooly slotted the ball home

Beeches again statrted the second half well and were soon rewardred when Wiltshire collected a through ball to score his first, he thought he had added his second but was ruled off side.

Corinium pressed hard looking to get back into the game and had several efforts that were well wide of the target, but one effort was well cleared off the Beeches line

The only sour point of the afternoon was the sending off of a player from each side, which was out of character with the rest of the match

Sean Wiltshire finished off the game with his second and in doing so registered a comfortable win

Men of the match : Perring & Wiltshire

10/09/11  Away  CORINIUM 2 THE BEECHES RES 2

For the second time in seven days local neighbours Beeches res and Corinium Sports met in the league. After last weeks win the Beeches wanted to secure all three points, but came up against a well organised Corinium team, who were well worth their point

Both sides started well but the windy conditions made it hard for either side to get a grip of the game. Corinium took the lead with a well struck shot from 25 yards which stand in keeper Rossiter tried hard to reach but the wind just took the ball out of his reach. Wing backs Sweetland and Robinson were finding plenty of room and it was these two that combined to get Beeches level and back into the game. Sweetland cut in from the left and had his shot parried away by Winters in the Corinium goal but following up was Robinson to score from close range

Corinium pushed on and started to pass the ball around the midfield and had several chances to retake the lead, eventually the presure told and the ball was scrambled into the goal to make it 2-1

The second half saw Beeches push hard to get back into the game and find the equaliser, it was to come from last seasons player of the year, a rare goal from central defender Max Szczerkowski, collecting the ball in his own half and pushing forward down the left hand side his cross cum shot sailed over Beeches old boy Wiggy Winters 2-2

Both sides looked to find the winning goal but in the end a draw was a fair result

Special thanks to out field player Rossiter for stepping into the the Beeches goal at the last minute, make his debut in rather than out

08/10/11  Poulton Res 1 The Beeches Res 7

This was certainly a game of two halves, as Beeches were turn the second half into a canter thanks mainly to one player the Maverick Matt Hanks who was to score a five goal Salvo after the break

Poulton took an early lead midway through the first half when a mistake by the normally reliable Gonz Garner presented Poluton the lead, miss timing a high ball Garner allowed the ball to bounce over him, with stand in keeper Warriner stranded in nomads land and yards off his line the Poluton striker was given time and space to lob him to open the scoring.

Beeches look for the equaliser and created several good chances that were not taken, before a superb cross field ball from Rossiter found the diminutive figure of midfielder Danny Perring who calmly volley home from close range to make it 1-1

At half time no one could have predicted the final score line as Matty Hanks decided to take center stage and showed how good a finisher he is by scoring five.

First after good work by Scarlett the following move resulted in Hanks lobbing the advancing keeper, then full back and skipper Ched Edlington crossed to find Hanks unmarked to tap home from inside the six yard box, a 15 minute hat-trick was completed to Hanks with esily the best goal of the eight on show, as he collected the ball on the edge of the box and superbly lobbed the keeper.

His fourth goal came after he was played through by Wiltshire and he calmly drew the keeper before rolling the ball home. No 5 came from the penalty spot when Hewett was brought down and upsteped the Maverick Hanks to complete a Nap hand of Five goals to add to his long record as a top goal scorer in local football.

Hewett then rounded off the game scoring The Beeches seventh after finishing well from 12 yards

The final score 7-1 was a credit to all The Beeches players but the main man was Matty Hanks who like a finally tuned racehorse that performs well with the sun on his back

Man of the Match : Hanksie

15/10/11   THE BEECHES RES 7 DOWN AMPNEY Res 2

Following the previous weeks goal scoring exploits Beeches Res continued in the same vain of form by scoring another seven even with out there five goal machine Hanks who was away

Both teams started well with both defences being kept busy at either end, but Beeches were to take the lead when Wiltshire scrambled the ball hokme from close range, a second was soon on it' sway from Tommy the Cannon Ball Waters who using all his elasticity stretched to reah a Perring cross, and struck the ball home beating the keeper with a well drilled shot across his body 2-0

The Beeches continued the second half again in the mood to score more, and it was a rare heded goal from Wazzer the Rocket Warriner that made it 3-0, from a Wiltshire corner the evergreen Warriner powered a bullet header past the keeper.

This was soon folowed by Captain Scarlett scoring his first of the season on his return to the club after a year out, having missed a bundle of chances over the past match and half Phil finally opned his account after the diminitive figure of the general Danny Perring in midfield picked out his run and Scarlett did the rest drawing the keeper before firing home.

Beeches crusing then took there foot of the gas and allowed Down Ampney to score two goals, the first came from a great 25 yard free kick that found the top corner giving Flannery no chance. Then the keeper misjudged the bounce the bounce and the ball came back off the cross- bar only to fall at the feet of an Ampney striker who ahd the simple task of scoring

This spurred Beeches on and the fifth goal came from another corner by Wiltshire, and was scrambled home by super sub Stinky the Cat Stephens who now plys his trade as an out field player.

Now that Scarlett had found his goal scoring boots he then made it seven with a delightful chip lob that everyone watched bounce in off the up right, the final goal came when a quickly taken throw in by Stallard was collected by the real Captain of the team, rambling full back Ched Edlington latched onto the throw in and was to score with an effort from the egde of the box to make it 7-2 and seal another easy win, taking the team to top of the table on goal difference

With 14 goals scored in two weeks and with another home game next week against bottom of the table Poulton the team must now look to cement there postion at the top

Special mention to darren wiltshire for standing in at the last moment to referee

Men of the match ; Phil Scarlett & Sean Wiltshire

22/10/11    THE BEECHES RES 3 POULTON RES 1

For the second time in three weeks The Beeches Res meet their counterparts from Poulton, but this time Poulton with a much changed side, where more of a match for the inform Beeches team. Both goal keepers were kept busy through out the game

The windy conditions made both teams play the ball where it should be played on the ground, with the majority of the play being contested in the midfield.

The opening goal came from the Beeches when after skipper Edlington's free kick was flicked on by Wiltshire, the flick on was cooly collected by the inform Tommy the Cannon Ball Waters who was to hit the ball on the half volley, back across the keeper finding the perfect finish 1-0

Then chasing a through ball youngster Jordan Stallard beat the full-back who was marking him, and with a superb lob opened his account for the season and recorded his first goal for the club.

Poulton found there way back into the match when they were awared a free kick 20 yards out, with the Beeches wall failing to prevent the shot on goal, Will Power's effort caught keeper Flannery flat footed, with the ball ending up in the back of the net to make it 2-1 at half-time

Poulton came out looking to get back into the match and had several chances to score, and the closest they came was when Martin Bartlett's wind assistant effort rattled the bar

With a strong bench of substitutes Beeches introduced them to liven up the game and rewarded when they were awared a penalty, with the Maverick Matt Hanks back from a weeks break he quickly grabbed the ball to make it 3-1 from the spot to continue where he had left off after scoring 5 against Poulton in his last match.

Beeches created several more chances to put the game even further beyond Poulton but poor finishing kept the score at 3-1

Man of the match : Jordan Stallard for scoring his first senior goal for the club

05/11/11     THE BEECHES RES 4 KINGSHILL RES 0

( Hanks 2, Warriner, Anderson )

With the Beeches Res still smarting after last weeks defeat to South Cerney Res, they were looking to bounce straight back against local rivals Kingshill Sports Res

Kingshill started the brighter of the two teams and took the early control and it appearded that Beeches were rather flat and quiet, after 15 minutes Beeches started to create chances for the strikers and following a cross from Scarlett. Matt Hanks managed to elude his marker to head home from close range

Beeches then pushed forward looking to score more and they created and missed several good chances, but a combination of good goalkeeping and poor finishing saw the score remain at 1-0 at half-time

Beeches began the second half well and again created more opportunities to score. Kingshill held out until the 60th minute when following a cross, Hanks dived in to score his second again with another header

This was soon followed by the evergreen Warriner who, from a corner found himself unmarked at the back post and he smashed home an unstoppable volley into the roof of the net to make it 3-0

With ten minutes to go the two subs combined with Dan Hanks setting up Bob Anderson to score his first of the season and Beeches fourth

Man of the match : Matt Hanks

12/11/11               THE BEECHES RES 0 BIBURY RES 2

Beeches Res set out with a game plan to frustrate league leaders Bibury Reserves and for 70 minutes their plan worked a treat, a back three of Garner, Szczerkowski and Warriner defended well and keeper Flannery was never really troubled although he did havea couple of shots to deal with

A 0-0 half time score line saw Beeches come of the pitch the much happier of the two teams, but knowing they would have to stick to their plan if they were to get anything out of the game

The dead lock was broken after 70 minutes when a Bibury player was not closed down quickly enough and he was allowed to shoot from distance and in doing so beat Flannery. Then 10 minutes later a shot which should have been easily dealt with at the near post squeezed past the keeper to amke it 2-0

Beeches did have a shot cleared off the line and only the cross bar stopped Beeches getting a draw

Man of the match : Tom Garner

19/11/11            CHQ UNITED RES 1   THE BEECHES RES 2

                                                          ( Waters pen, Hewett )

This was a game that hinged on two penalty's, one being scored and the other missed or should we say well saved

CHQ unbeaten this season started the gane well and tested keeper Flannery with a couple of long range efforts which he dealt with well. With the Beeches back four and midfield looking strong and beginning to win the ball and get it down to play it was from agood move down the left that striker Phil Scarlett found himself inside the CHQ box, only to see himself taken down by the home defender giving Referee Read the easiest of decisions awarding the Beeches a penalty. From the spot kick Tommy the Cannon ball Waters made sure by blasting the ball straight down the middle beating the home keeper who made his mind up to to dive to the left

CHQ however were soon back in the game when following a good passage of play there player found a sweet 25 yard strike, which sailed over the stranded Flannery to make it 1-1

The second half CHQ again started the stronger but in 17 year old Brad Robinson Beeches had a player that was relishing the rough and tumble of senior football and his effort was making his team mates around him also show stiffer residence.

With CHQ pressing for the lead they were awarded a penalty, but withthe CHQ forward trying to replicate Tommy Waters earlier, drilling the ball down the middle he only found the inform Flannery save his effort and also saved the followed effort coming from the rebound

This action seemed to spur the Beeches on and they were soon attacking there opponents goal creating chances of there own as they looked for the winner. A through ball from Dan Perring found his team mate Craig Hewett who collected the ball and beat the on coming keeper with the neatest of Lobs, resulting with the ball finding the net for what was to be the winning goal

CHQ pressed hard for the equaliser and would have found it but for some last ditch defending from Mark Warriner who cleared off his line with a great headed clearnce

Beeches were to hang on for what was three very valuable points and capped a good team performance

Man of the match : Brad Robinson

2010-2011 SEASON MATCH REPORTS

11/09/10 Away v Bibury Res

Bibury Res 0 The Beeches Res 5

The Beeches Reserve teams opening game of the season was against last years champions Bibury who started their campaign the previous week with a comfortable 5-1 victory.

The were debutante performances from goal keeper Tom Burgess who put in a faultless performance and new signing and striker Sam Clarke who immediately combined well with skipper Matt Hanks up front to form a partnership that looked like they had played together for a number of seasons

Bibury did have some pacey forwards that were particularly well marshaled by the Beeches back four of Breen, Garner, Cuss & Edlington, while Tony Gordon who has had to play in goal for the last year and a half was able to revert back to his mid-field role along side man of the match Tommy Waters who were we well supported by the wide men King & Hanks

Beeches opened the scoring after 10 minutes when Waters picked up the ball on the edge of the penalty area and hit a good strike which took a wicked deflection, finding the the corner of the Bibury goal giving ex- Beeches keeper Pete Harris no chance

The second goal came soon after when the lively Sam Clarke picked up the ball in his opponent penalty area and finished well, again finding the bottom corner of the net.

Skipper Hanks then picked the ball up out wide and delivered a delightful in swinging cross into the six yard box, meeting the cross was full back Billy Breen who got the faintest of touches to glance home and make the score-line 3-0

The fourth goal and the best was a great strike and finish from skipper Hanks who collected the ball on the edge of the box a thundered home a great shot that rocketed into the top right hand corner.

Half Time 4-0

With a comfortable lead the only danger was to become complacent and Bibury also had a strong wind behind there back.

Defending deep Beeches were rarely troubled and also hit Bibury on the break several times. Clarke and Hanks both going close while at the other end Burgess produced another good save like he did in the first half, this time turning the ball around his near post for a corner

With Gordon tiring and Edlington struggling with a niggling calf strain both subs Matt Page and Max Szcezerkowski also made their first appearances for the reserves

The fifth and final goal that put the last nail in Bibury's coffin came from Tommy Waters boot and this time from a left foot strike from the edge of the box, his effort hit the bar and bounced over the line. Just in case the ref had to decide weather or not the ball had crossed the line Clarke made sure from close in. But awarded the goal to his team mate Waters

Beeches could have made it 6-0 but Matt Hanks spot kick was well saved by keeper Harris

Referee Dave Cambell as always had a sound game while a good all round team performance sealed the points on offer

Man of the match : Tommy Waters

18/09/10  Home The Beeches Res v Ashton Keynes Res

The Beeches Res 3 Ashton Keynes Res 5

Players have no idea what it takes to arrange a game and some times no consideration, a frustrated Mick Ricketts who spent all week ringing around to get someone to ref finally was helped out by his son Saul Ricketts who refereed the game really well.

I am now sat at my computer, it is Monday 20th September and 8-10 p.m , my wife would like some company but instead I am having to write reports to the Standard and Web site which is done Sunday's by myself. But because no one else can be bothered, here goes another report from the General

After a convincing win the week before some players badly let the team down while others performed exceptional well, Sam Clarke was an inspirational figure scoring a great hat-trick on his home debut

The first half Beeches left off where they started from the week before and although the team never reached the dizzy heights of the premiership they still looked compact and well drilled to deal with the attacking threats Ashton Keynes had.

The Beeches opended the scoring after 20 minutes when a good run from Sam Clarke took him around the last defender and keeper out wide and should of finished with his left peg with the goal mouth empty. But with a cool head and keeper and defender now back on the goal line Sam calmly eyeballed the two before striking home, finding the bottom near post corner

Matt Page was having a particular good game in the middle of the park and played two or three great balls that split wide open the Ashton back four while Gonz at the back was having a nightmare first half allowing the ball to bounce and beat him at will, but thanks to his partner Cuss the danger was cleared on more than once. Clarke then made it two nil after he found space on the edge of the box he found the neatest of lobs to beat the advancing keeper

The second half players went to sleep and became lazy allowing Ashton more of the ball  where last weeks hard work and determination kept there opponents at bay. Ashton where to run riot scoring five times through Lailly, Petirie, Gibbons and Hall 2,

The Beeches were to throw the game away after Clarke had completed his hat-trick from a tight angle again scoring at the near post to make it 3-1.

With new keeper Tom Burgess being beaten from distance on two occasions the score line quickly changed and gave the impedance to an Ashton team who looked to be out of the contest but with the goals their confidence grew.

With Dan Hanks again failing to complete a game and Matt King injured subs Bailey and Anderson were introduced, the mid-field partnership of Gordon and Page disappeared and with no player communication or no one person having the desire to raise the spirits of everyone the game slowly drifted away

Surely this was the time when players need to roll their sleeves up and step up to the plate but sadly the response was not there unlike the performance the  weekend before

It is now 8-55 p.m and I am knackered after doing the reports for the standard put well done to Sam Clarke The Beeches man of the match : head and shoulders above all.

25/09/10  Home county cup

The Beeches Res  6  Apperley & Tewkesbury Dynamos Saturday 0

This first round county cup tie at Kingshill complex turned into a very comfortable victory for the reserve team

The Beeches started well and went one nil up inside the first five minutes when Sam Clarke broke free from the two static central defenders and as in his previous two matches had the confidence and technical ability to slot the ball past the on coming keeper to make it 1-0

The Beeches continued to dominate play with Sykes, Waters, King and Gordon winning most tackles and playing some neat and tidy football. The second goal came from a precise pass from Garner who found the inform Clarke who again finished with the calmest of finishes on another one on one situation with the keeper.

Two nil down Apperley raised there game and an error at the back by stand in midfielder player Mike Eagles almost gave them a life line. This attack was dealt with and Beeches soon got back to there passing game and again began to control the game.

The 3rd goal was from a goal kick taken by Mike Eagles, the ball getting flicked on by Tommy Waters who in turn found the speedy Danny Gudger who collected the ball and ran past two defenders before finishing low into the bottom corner.

The 4th goal and the second week running hat-trick for in form striker Sam Clarke soon followed. This time Pete Sykes found the inch perfect pass that found Clarke again with another one on one with the keeper and again well taken giving the keeper no chance at his near post

Half time 4-0

Four nil and it could have been much worse for Apperley who's keeper produced some good saves, while Beeches at times over played the situation when in on goal.

Danny Gudger made it 5-0 but the goal was down to a big slice of luck, when his goal bound effort which was well covered by the keeper hit a divot and bounced up over the shoulder of the keeper before rolling along the line and eventually nestled in the back of the net

With the game won subs Tom Bailey, Max Szcrekowski and Hughes came on and it soon became 6-0. Tom Bailey picked up the ball went past two defenders before producing the perfect cross finding marksman Sam Clarke who again finished well taking his tally to four and the teams to 6. Sam has now scored 8 goals in his three appearances for the club.

Next week the reserves entertain Poluton

02/10/10

The Beeches Res 0 Poulton 3

This season is becoming a nightmare as players continue not too make themselves available to play which is stretching the teams to there limits. With no goal keeper available after Tom Burgess was called up for first team duties, this meant club veteran and stalwart Saul Ricketts was to don the gloves for his first game of the season.

The game was one of few chances and not much in the way of entertaining football being played. What little which was produced came from the away team Poulton who had the better of the game and produced what few chances there were. Several goalmouth scrambles were cleared by The home defense but Poulton were to take the lead when Martin Jarrett collected a ball outside the box and sent a shot through a crowded area, with Ricketts unsighted the low shot found the bottom right hand corner.

Half time 1-0

The second half started much the same as the first with Beeches defense struggling with the pacey Warriner and the second goal came was not long in coming although it again came from a crowded box when the ball was played in at a corner kick, the ball being scrambled home by the ever alert Jarrett, his effort squirting under the foot of a defender on the line.

With Ricketts struggling after being kicked in the hand by Warriner in the first half he eventually was forced to come off, Matt Hanks Beeches striker volunteered to take over in goal forcing the unwell sub Tom Bailey to enter the match. It was Bailey who produced Beeches best effort of the game when he burst past two defenders and lobbed the Poulton keeper, but his effort just failed to drop quickly enough and just cleared the bar.

Matt Hanks had little to do in goal but was beaten when a long ball clearance fell to a Poulton striker, despite a good effort from Hanks could only get his finger tips to the shot and the ball ended up in the back of the net making it 3-0

The last ten minutes were made much harder as Beeches were forced to finish the game with ten men when Bob Anderson had to leave the filed of play because of injury.

The management would like to thank Ricketts, Lane, Yates and Tapp for standing in at the last moment so the club could manage to field two teams.

Players must make sure they don't put there fellow team mates in the same position next week and make themselves available to play away to Minety.

09/10/10 Away

Minety 1 The Beeches Res 1

With players again unavailable through illness, holidays and injuries. A much changed Beeches side took the filed against Minety hoping to put the poor result of losing to bottom of the table Poulton behind them. Also Minety having being beaten 11-0 nil the weekend before were also after a confidence booster.

The pitch was not a good surface and both team struggled to pass the ball well. Minety had the better of the play and forced Beeches defense backwards and it was Garner who had to make a last ditch tackle to prevent Minety taking an early lead. This seemed to wake Beeches up and slowly Gordon and Stephens winning more ball this gave more possession to Bailey & Waters going forward.

Lee Rhodes dropping down from the first team duties he often ploughed a lone furrow up front but linking well with Bailey he surged into the box only to be brought down for a penalty. Picking himself up he struck the ball well but sadly his effort was too close to the keeper who saved well with his outstretched leg.

Minety were to take the lead when Cuss failed not only once but twice to clear his lines, resulting in the home side finishing from close range

Manager Jones at half time returned to a more basic 4-4-2 system with Tommy Tonto Waters partnering the lone ranger Rhodes. This enabled Tom Bailey the Chesterton wing wizard to see allot more of the ball and he was know beginning to threaten the opposition with some good quality crosses which the Minety defense cleared well.

The goal that made the game level was some what lucky,a back pass from a Minety player to his keeper saw the keepers clearance hit Waters on the head, this resulted in the ball being diverted back over the advancing keepers head and dropping into the unguarded net to make it 1-1.

The final result seemed a fair one with the game having been played in good spirit and well refereed by stand in ref Mike Trigg

Men of the match : Billy Breen and Tom Bailey

16/10/10

Mills Roberts memrial cup ( round 1 )

Down Ampney Res 0 The Beeches Res 4

The Beeches Res welcomed back the prolific goal scorer Sam Clarke and also the experienced Mark Warriner who had been out injured, also Craig Hewett who had been on first team duties were added to the team.

Beeches started well and it was the informed Tom Bailey who set up striker Clarke for the first of his hat-trick. Bailey's good work resulted in him crossing for Clarke who picked up the ball on the edge of the penalty area before skillfully dispatching the ball past the Down Ampney keeper and finding the bottom right hand corner of the net

The Beeches continued to press their opponents and were winning the mid-filed battle with man of the match Matt King instrumental in everything that The Beeches produced. Clarke then turned provider after he broke free of his marker and crossed into a crowded penalty box, the ball appeared to miss a number of bodies before falling at the feet of his strike partner Tommy Waters who planted the ball back into the net to make it 2-0

Half Time 2-0

The second half started the same as the first with Beeches again dominating the midfield with Clarke providing the outlet to build the attacks. Down Ampney did have their moments and when needed the injured Burgess in the Beeches goal was in good form making some good saves and blocks.

The third goal came when skipper Edlington produced a precision pass which cut through the Ampney defense and found the unmarked Clarke leaving him one on one with the keeper. The strikers effort was well saved but the rebound fell to a predator who is at present deadly in front of goal making no mistake 3-0

With Hewett taking a knock Bob Anderson entered the fra and should have scored with almost his first touch. A long kick from Burgess found Anderson who in return lost his composure at the vital moment and his effort trickled past the post.

Number soon came from that man again Clarke taking his tally to 11 in four games. This time Gordon providing the killer pass which Clarke picked up on the edge of the box, one on one with the keeper he lifted the ball over the keeper with the neatest of lobs to make it 4-0 and put Beeches into the next round of the Mills Roberts cup

Hillyer came on as sub and made his Beeches debut and was unlucky not to score as he had several chances in the dying minutes as Down Ampney push forward looking for a consolation goal

Man of the match Matt KIng

23/10/10  The Beeches Res 2 Down Ampney 5  ( Minor county cup )

For the first 20 minutes of this cup tie Beeches competed well against the title contenders and league leaders Down Ampney

After a spell of pressure Ampney took the lead through ex- Fairford Town player Alex Rudd, they increased their lead to 3-0 with two more goals from central midfielder Williams giving them a comfortable lead at half time

With Sam Clarke having to go off because of injury Beeches thought they would find it hard to get back into the match but after a regroup at half time Tommy Waters went up front to partner Hillyer and the team were to produce a good second half in which they managed a 2-2 draw

Beeches began to make chances and it was super sub Dan Hanks who had the first chance when a well struck free kick by Waters was spilled by the Ampney keeper, with the ball falling to Hanks he only managed to fire over from 2 yards. This how-ever never dented his confidence and within 5 minutes Hanks had atoned for his miss and made it 3-1 after collecting the ball on the right and skipping past the defender he found the bottom right hand corner of the net.

This seemed to spur the home side on and they began to throw caution to the wind and soon found that Ampney were not so unbeatable as many had thought. Bailey and Hillyer were to go close. Beeches were unlucky to loss a fourth goal when a mistake by the normally reliable King allowed Rudd to make it 4-2 after he latched onto a poor back pass.

This again spurred Beeches on and the inform Tom Bailey finally found his goal scoring boots with a class finish.

At 4-2 another goal would have made the finish interesting but it was Ampney who scored the next making it 5-2 after a poor defensive clearance fell to Blackwell who was unmarked to score

The Beeches players can find heart after a good second half perfromance and must surley take that confidence into next weekends match as they again play Down Ampney away in the league

The Beeches men of the match : The central partnership at the back of Mark Warriner & Josh Cuss

30/10/10   Down Ampney 5 The Beeches 1

With the club short of strikers the reserve team went into this game short of attacking options. After leaking five the week before Beeches knew they had to be at there best if they were to give there opponents any sort of a game

With a five man mid-field and strong looking back four Beeches started well and the game looked evenly balanced for the first 20. In fact it was The Beeches who were to score first when Waters played Bailey through on goal, the speed of Bailey just getting a toe to poke the ball past the keeper and see the ball trickle into the net

1-0 down Ampney responded well and for the rest of the half Beeches were on the back foot. Ampney wining a series of corner kicks,in which there opener came through Matt Chamberlian who scored with a rare headed goal. The second goal came just on the stroke of half time after referee Collins failed to notice that Chamberlian had handled the ball as he controlled it before scoring

Again the second half started much the same as the first with Beeches stifling and frustrating the Down Ampney mid-field. With tiredness and injury coming at the wrong time Beeches were forced into changes and it was then that Ampney wrapped up the game with a further 3 more goals taking there tally to the same as the week before.

Tom Burgess in his first season as a keeper was to deny Ampney another goal when he saved well from the penalty spot

In the end Ampney were worthy of the win while parts of the match were well contested by a spirited Beeches

06/11/10     The Beeches Res 1 Lechlade 6

This was collectively and individually the worse performance The Beeches Reserves team has given so far this season. All six goals that were scored by there opponents can be put down to silly errors or lack of judgment from a Beeches team that never really competed on any level during the whole of the ninety minutes.

The only bright spots were the performances from the two youth team players  Matt Fletcher &  Rob Mant who were both making their debuts for the reserves, the only other good thing that came out of the game was the goal scored by Tommy Waters

Next week Beeches travel to Chalford to play a quarter final Mills Roberts tie  against bottom club Chalford 3rds. Both games against each other last season ended in draws and again one would expect this match to be a hard fought contest.

The prize for the winners being a semi final place

13/11/10    Chalfords 3rds 1 The Beeches Res 7

After a few heavy defeats Beeches traveled to bottom of the table Chalford knowing that they had a great chance to progress further in the Mills Roberts memorial cup

The Beeches started well enough and were to take the lead inside the first minute after good pressure from Craig Hewett caused the Chalford central defender to head past his own goalie. Chalford reacted well and pressed Beeches into defending there goal.

Chalford were unlucky not to level the score when a great save from veteran Mark Warriner and the upright kept the ball out of the Beeches net. Chalford continued to have the better of the game and were guilty of some poor finishing while at the other end Tommy Waters added a second when he scored one of his now famous strikes from 25 yard.

The third goal was to come from another senior player through the unlikely source of Tony Gordon. Tony outdoing Tom with a 30 yard unstoppable strike finding the top corner after he noticed the Chalford keeper had strayed off his line.

The 3-0 score line flattered The Beeches who rode there lucky but found some great strikes. Chalford did score early in the second half when the number 8 was left unmarked to score from 18 yards

This was the wake up call the Beeches needed and from that moment on they went onto dominate the rest of the game. Man of the match Matt King then got on the sore sheet with another 30 yard effort which was badly fumbled by the Chalford young keeper. King's second followed a good move which resulting in him finishing off the Waters pass by scoring with a neat lob from the edge of the box.

The two Beeches subs then combined to make it 6-1 with Anderson lifting the ball over the defenders head to find Hillyer who took the dropping ball on the volley and volleyed the ball home for his first goal for the club.

Number seven came from Mark Stephens when he scored with a precise finish

A good all round team effort see's the team through to a semi final berth and a possible night out at the Corinium Stadium

27/11/10    The Beeches Res 1 Minety 3

After two pitch inspections and on the coldest Saturday this season the pitch was finally given the all clear by Brian Woodcock so the game went a head.

With Referee Andy Beard either not turning up or told not too by Referee appointment secretary Phil Smith it was left too Neill Fortune to save the day and referee the match because his game had been called off.

The game was a very even contest between two evenly matched teams that have in the past always had good games between themselves. The first twenty minutes both sides probed and tried to find out the defensive frailties each team might have.

The game sprung to life after 25 minutes when Mark Stephens collected a loose ball in the middle of the park and threaded a pass out to the left wing to find Matt King. King's inch perfect cross over the top of the Minety defense found his other wing partner Craig Hewett who's first touch took him inside his opponents penalty area, his second touch was to see him shoot across the advancing keeper and find the bottom left hand corner of the net

The lead how-ever was short lived when goal keeper Tom Burgess came for a ball which had been played into the 18 yard box, the keeper got a good punch away  only to see the ball fall at the feet of a Minety forward who in return lobbed the ball back into the goal despite the attempted goal line clearance from skipper Edlington the ball nestled in the net to make it 1-1

The scoreline then went to 2-1 with almost the last kick of the first half when Beeches conceded a weak goal. This was caused through a lack of tracking back to mark which resulted in a Minety player finding time and space to head home an uncontested cross

The second half was again an even contest with both sides going close to scoring. One of the best chances falling to Graham Robinson who has been out of action since the first game of the season and it was a welcome sight for the club just to see him back in action. Beeches started to push forward looking to level the score only to get caught on the counter attack and again concede a sloppy goal and end any hope of the draw

15/01/11    LECHLADE 4 THE BEECHES RES 2

After a six week break, the Christmas and New Year goodwill was extended to the forwards of Lechlade by a poor 1st half performance from a Beeches team struggling to find any form. All three goals in the first half could easily have been avoided by a bit more commitment and determination.

A very even start saw both teams winning a lot of ball in midfield but there was not much attacking football coming from either team. The opening goal came when an easy through ball was not dealt with allowing the Lechlade striker to bundle his way through keeper Burgess and head home into an unguarded net. A second soon followed from the same striker who again used his strength barging his way through a static defence to score his second.

Even missing a penalty never dented the Lechlade man of the match striker who went onto complete his first half hat-trick when the best move of the match saw a calm finish after his initial shot was parried by Burgess with the rebound falling to the man in form to score.

The second half Beeches were playing for there pride and were to put in a strong second half performance in which they were to run out 2-1 winners.

Craig Hewett scored the first when he latched onto a cross from Matt King and finished well from 18 yards. Sub Bob Anderson scored Beeches second after a Sam Clarke effort rebound out to him allowing him to tuck the ball away making it 3-2, the game was very much like last years encounter when Beeches came from behind to earn a 3-3 draw.

How ever the Lechlade striker was score his 4th and seal the points

The positive things from the afternoon were the return injured players and the outstanding performance of their youngest player Max Szczerkowski who played his first game at the heart of the defence

twice in two weeks, The Beeches Reserves have given Lechlade too much time and space in front of goal and as before the Lechlade front men have punished them by scoring the goals to secure the points

Ashley Andrews was a constant threat and scored twice before half time from inside the 18 yard box, the third goal was a well struck shot from Martin Wilson from 25 yards

Another impressive display from Max Szcrerkowski was only bettered by the full debut of Robbie Mant  who looked like a superb find and will hopefully challenge for senior team status

29/01/11   THE BEECHES RES 2 CORINIUM 2

This meeting of the two struggling sides ended in a good score draw, with both sides having chances to win. Beeches started with a new formation looking to use the pace of Hewett and Clarke in a front three with Waters

The majority of the first half worked in the favor of the home team forcing Corinium to defend with Beeches creating all the chances it was only a matter of time before they scored. The opening goal was a well worked goal with Waters  being sent free to lob the keeper, it soon became 2-0 through again  good team work between right back Mant and striker Clarke.  A cross was met on the left by Hewett who calmly took his time before placing the ball past the on coming keeper.

With the home side in cruise control they soon took there foot of the gas which encouraged Corinium to push forward. The resulting pressure produced a goal from Andy Woolfoot making the score line 2-1 at Half time

Both sides started well in the second period with several chances being created at both ends. An error in the midfield allowed the away team to break forward and pass a ball through the Beeches defence allowing there forward to round the keeper and score.

A fine save from Burgess kept the home team in the match when a free kick  was goal bound and arrowing towards the top corner, Burgess outstretched hand pushed the ball onto the cross bar and behind for a corner

Beeches pushed hard for the winner with Waters going close but just failing to control the ball in a great position to score. Also the reliable goal scorer Clarke who has been out injured for sometime is just struggling to find his normal clinical finishing touch

With referee Collins just checking his watch the last chance fell to Hanks another player returning from a long absence, cutting in from the right his effort was cleared off the line by the combination of defender and goal keeper

Both team will again renew there challenge for division 2 survival next week as they play each other once again

The Beeches man of the match was again Robbie Mant

 5/02/11    Corinium 0 The Beeches Res 5

For the second time in 7 days The Beeches Reserves played their local rivals Corinium Sports

The game was never going to be a classic encounter but it was all about winning and taking the three points and the bragging rights of which team would avoid the bottom two

Kicking into the wind in the first half meant that Corinium would have the majority of the play and they pinned the Beeches team back in there own half for long periods of the first half. The wind was that strong that even goal kicks were difficult to keep the ball in play, but some excellent defending by the Beeches back four Szczerkowski , Garner, Cuss and Edlington and the tough tackling from the midfield pairing of Gordon and Stephens protected the home goal.

It was the home team that were to opening the scoring five minutes before half time when Hewitt broke clear and to found striker Clarke who rounded the keeper to score his first goal since returning from injury

This resolute defending set up Beeches to impose themselves in the second half and with the wind behind them beeches dominated play with further goals coming from Stephens, King, Edwards and Edlington.

This win gave Beeches only their second league win of the season and hopefully the belief that they are a much better team than the current table position shows

12/02/11   Poulton 2 The Beeches Res 0

A very even contest between two teams trying their best to play good football was divided by two late goals by the home team. Beeches started the best and in the opening minutes a good move involving Waters saw his effort whistle over the bar from just outside the penalty area. Not many chances were falling to neither side as both teams canceled out each others play. With both sets of  mid-field players working hard space was hard to find.

As the game progressed Poulton came more into the game and started to push the Beeches back four deeper and deeper but Burgess in the away goal was hardly ever troubled.

The second half saw much of the same and it looked like a draw was going to be a fair result, sub Will Power the ex-Beeches youth player came off the bench for Poulton to open the scoring. Unmarked inside the penalty box he volleyed the ball home finding the top corner.

Beeches then went three at the back in an attempt to pull the goal back and efforts from Hanks, Waters and Hewett going close it was while referee Woodcock was checking his watch and read to blow that Poulton made it 2-0 through Kingsbury

05/03/11    THE BEECHES 4 CHALFORD 1

A much improved performance from the poor team showing of the week before saw The Beeches win their first game in the Junior Charities cup. Strong midfield performances from King and Hewett and the impressive debut of Callum Parker were the basis of this win.

Playing a high defensive line helped the midfield dictate play in the early stages and chances fell to Clarke, Parker and Hewett, with the Chalford keeper making some good saves and blocks. The Beeches players seemed to be their own worse enemies and it looked like they were never going to break through the Chalford defensive line. But with 25 minutes on the clock good work from Parker found Clarke who in return found the bottom corner of the goal from 18yards drilling his shoot past the keeper.

This soon became two when left unmarked in the box the ever accurate Waters slotted home for his 1st goal of the game. The only error of the game came from a defensive mistake which resulted in Chalford's number 9 slotting past Edwards in goal.

The second half started as the first half with Beeches making the majority of the chances and the Chalford keeper saving from Bailey, Hewett and Clarke when all three were cleab through on goal. The game was won when Tommy Waters scored two more to claim his first hattrick of the season and taking his tally into double figures for the season.

A specail mention has to go to Nick Edwards who volunteered to go in goal for his first game ever between the sticks which saw a performance that was more more than capable as stand in for the missing Burgess

The Beeches Res 0  South Cerney Res 6

After a good run of results and three wins a draw and one defeat. Players should take a hard look at themselves because this performance lacked everything needed to compete at any level. The desire and commitment was lacking all over the pitch.

Beeches could easily have scored 3 or four goals but the players positional play and organisation was sadly missing. Goals from Gavin Jones 2, Kevin Messenger 2 , Gayle and Oram sealed a comfortable win.

How ever a missed penalty by Matt Hanks and two glaring misses by Todd Kavanagh plus full back Richard Edlington hitting the side netting could have reduced the scoreline. Beeches did score two goals which were ruled out for off side.

The loss of Tony Gordon the keeper after 30 minutes did not help matters and Tony spent the night at Cirencester hospital. I have talked to Tony today (Sunday 20 Septemeber)and he is still in Stratton ward, but is now able to sit up and will hopefully be released later today

10/10/09 Away v Oaksey Res

Oaksey Res 2 The Beeches Res 6  ( Hanks 4, Crosbee, L.Risby)

After three successive defeats Beeches bounced back with a comfortable win largely because the balance of the side was good. With added pace out wide and an inform striker in Matt Hanks the result was never in doubt. Matt Hanks opened the scoring with a diving header from a Kevin Curtis cross.

Debut boy 16 year old Luke Crosbee was in fine form and on one of his runs was brought down on the edge of the box. From the free kick Luke Risby placed the ball into the right hand corner to make it two. Matt Hanks added the third before half time again latching onto a kevin Curtis cross he volleyed home form 6 yards.

The second half Beeches started slowly and Oaksey were awarded a penalty which Rice scored from. Matt Hanks then scored his hat-trick after being put through by Dale Keen. Oaksey scored a second with a neat finish from the edge of the penalty area.

Then young Luke Crosbee got a well deserved goal cutting back from the line he rounded the full back before firning home from close range. Man of the match Matt Hanks completed his tally by scoring the sixth goal and his fourth

Good performances to note were the return to form of Tom Garner, Richard Edlington, Luke Risby and a solid debut for Sean Kirby at the back

17/10/09 Away v Lechlade 87

Lechlade  7   The Beeches Res 3  ( Hanks 2, Crosbee )

Beeches started the game well and for the first 20 minutes they were the better side with Matt Hanks and  Luke Crosbee going close with shots than just missed there target.

The difference between the two sides was the impressive Ashley Andrews who had pace to burn. He was not playing for his regular team Nythe where he is the top goal scorer in the premier division of the Swindon and District team scoring 10 in 5 games and a total of 20 in 10 games. Which is some record.

Lechalde were to lead 4-0 at half time through break away attacks leaving Nick Edwards, Saul Ricketts,Tom Garner and Richard Edlington tolling

After the break Beeches were to score 3 but also concede three. Matt Hanks twice and Luke Crosbee scoring for the way team while lechalde's scorers on the day were Andrews 3, Ockwell 2, Reynolds and Clack

The Beeches Res 3    Corinium 5  ( Barham,Crosbee, Hanks )

Another game full of defensive mistakes was to put the final nail in The Beeches coffin. Again Beeches started well and debut boy Johnny Barham was to open the scoring on three minutes. Well on top, Beeches were to concede the equaliser after a long ball found an unmarked Clarkson with time to spare and score easily. Clarkson made it 2-1 after Lee failed to clear.

Luke Crosbee levelled with a good finish but again straight away Beeches let another poor goal in when a shot from Langham should have been cleared off the goal line by Tom Bailey.

The second half Corinium made it 4-2 through an unmarked Cansdale. Beeches rallied again and a good run from Luke Crosbee crossed to top goal scorer Matt Hanks who controlled and turned to fire home.

With Beeches pressing Corinium made it 5-3 from a direct free kick from Evans

31/10/09  Away v Bibury Res

Bibury Res 6    The Beeches Res  0

Again several changes were made just to be able to field a team and this week the team started with a 3-5-2 system to try to combat the goals being conceded.

And for the first half of the match Beeches played well starting with a back three of Huw Humphreys making his full debut, Saul Ricketts and Darren Hendon also making his first start of the season. Beeches controlled the game and went close three times with free kicks from Saul Ricketts. Testing the Bibury keeper.

The turning point of the match was after 30 minutes Beeches lost two players with bad knee injuries, Todd Kavanagh and Luke Risby who look like they will be out of action for some time. The probelm was to try and solve the problem of having the players left on duty to continue the system

With 10 minutes to go to half time a harmless cross was headed home by Gary Brookes. 1-0 was not a deserved lead at half time

With everything at the moment going against the away side a miss timed cross from Hughes floated into the top corner to make it 2-0. With Saul Ricketts then moving into midfield Beeches defence fell apart and Bibury added further goals through Edmunds, Montgomery and Woolfort 2

There were some good performances from keeper Steve Bond debut, Huw Humphreys Tom Waters, Darren Hendon and Saul Ricketts

7/11/09   Home V Oaksey Res

The Beeches Res  4   Oaksey Res  3 ( Crosbee 2, Keen, Hanks )

Beeches started well and were to dominate the first period with chances being created at regular intervals. One would have thought a it was only a matter of time before the home side started scoring.

Mark Perry back from injury was leading the line well and was to be denied several times by good goal keeping by the Oaksey custodian.

However it was against the run of play that Oaksey were to open the scoring when a a low harmless free kick was sent into the Beeches penalty area the ball eluded all defenders and keeper Tony Gordon and found the bottom corner of the net.

This brought about the response any manager would have hoped for and immediately great urgency and passion was shown and Dale Keen, on the right, cut inside to strike the perfect finish. In a matter of minutes young Luke Crosbee scored to make it 2-1. Making the half time brief much easier.

The second half Beeches controlled the game and increased the lead first when sub Eliott Font returning fron honey moon was instrumental in the build up he produced the killer ball to find top goal scorer Matt Hanks who up till then was not having one of his best of games. But a class finish was need to make it 3-1

Luke Crosbee scored his second and fifth of the season in as many games to make it 4-1

With both subs introduced Beeches lost composure at the back and through slack marking and postional play gifted Oaksey two more goals and made the score line a lot closer than it should have been.

14/11/09 Away v CHQ Utd Res

CHQ United Res  3   The Beeches Res  3

Both sets of players produced a good game played in howling winds and driving rain and it was not the place for any fair weather supporters. Those who did come huddled together in the dugouts. Even referee Dave Cambell wore the old wooley hat for protection.

Beeches again started well and had most of the play in the first half and it was pleasing to see a well disciplined back four of Huw HumphreysNick EdwardsJosh Cuss and Richard Edlington controlling play.

Beeches were to open the scoring when skipper Mark Stephens was upended in the box. Allowing Matt Hanks to score.Matt  Hanks also hit the bar from a 30 yard free kick.

The second half the winds became much stronger and some quality corners from CHQ were begining to create chances for the home side. Scott Benfiled , Nick Saunders and Richard Stern all scoring from close range. In between times the keeper Tony Gordon kept his team in it with a good penalty save his second of the season. At the other end Elliot Fonte almost scored when his header hit the upright

Credit to the Beeches lads who responded well after all three subs had been introdued they finished the game strongly. First Tom Newman fired home after Paul Hortons shot was only parried.

The equalizer came from an unlikely source in full back Richard Edlington picking the ball up in his own half and going on a mazzy run which took him into unknow terroritory. He was to find the best finish of his long and industrial career for the club. With the home keeper coming out to narrow the angles Ched finished calmly driving the ball over the keeper into the corner of the net

In the end a well deserved point

21/11/09  Home V Chalford III

The Beeches Res 3    Chalford III   3

Conditions were a carbon copy of last weekend with the added touch of more heavier bursts of rain. Considering the poor reputation of the KIngshill Sports complex drainage system the pitches held out well.

The first half was also similar to the weekend before with Beeches playing well. They were however to fall behind when a long high through ball was not dealt with, allowing the bounce of the ball to beat the defence. The ball was not cleared and the livley number 10 from Chalford latched onto the mistake and lobbed keeper Tony Gordon from 25 yards.

The equalizer came from a Saul Ricketts corner which was drilled low into the six yard box, the ball falling at the feet of the in coming Tommy Waters who made no mistake from close range.

Half time 1-1

The second half Beeches were to take the lead with easily the best move of the match. Some great interplay between players made space for Matt Hanks to be put through on goal. Matt drew the keeper before squaring the ball across the six yard box to the on coming Josh Cuss who was to score from close range.

As the game progressed Beeches lost both the Hank's brothers to injuries. With the team having to reshuffle this gave Chalford the added edge to get forward more. Growing in stature their pressure produced an equalizer from a cross and good header.

Beeches responded when a good move down the right put Saul Ricketts clear and his inch perfect cross was met by sub Kev Curtis, coming onto the cross he connected well only to see his effort scrambled off the Chalford goal line.

Then with only 5 minutes to go Chalford made it 3-2. Which in normal circumstances would have seen off most teams but credit to the lads in  the dying minutes Tommy Waters took his tally for the day to two when he latched onto the ball in midfield. Taking the ball in his stride he set himself before drilling an excellent low shot from 25 yards which angled into the bottom left hand corner of the Chalford goal giving the keeper no chance

This again showed a great response to not getting beat

The match was well refereed by stand in ref Ollie Wakefield

The Beeches Res 2 Bibury Res 4

The Beeches made their normal poor start to the game, after only a couple of minutes they found themselves 1 down when a mis-directed header was latched on to by a Bibury player who slotted home into the bottom corner.

After this initial set back The Beeches rallied and chances were starting to come, good link up play between Matt Hanks and Johnny Barham saw the young striker one on one with the keeper but his effort was straight at the keeper. Mark Stephens was having his usual all action game covering every blade of grass and tackling everyone, one over zealous challenge leading to a bit of pushing and shoving resulting in yellow cards for himself and a Bibury player.

The Beeches equalizer came from Saul Ricketts, awarded a free kick on the right hand side of the pitch, Ricketts arrowed a thunderbolt of a shot into the top left hand corner of the Bibury goal past the outstretched hand of the Bibury keeper.

After getting back into the game, poor defending was again to result in a further two goals being conceded before half time, keeper Gordon could only watch after being beaten witha 20 yard lob then a simple tap in

The 2nd half started well for The Beeches, attacking the Bibury back line with Barham teasing them into giving away several free kicks, one run at the defence causing a rash tackle in the area ensuring a penalty. Matt Hanks taking and scoring his ninth of the season taking him to nine in nine games.

Chances for both teams were to come and go until another fine run at the Bibury defence by Barham resulted in another penalty being awarded. after being tackled from behind in the area. Hanks again stepped up to try to make the score 3-3 but his well hit shot was slightly too high and smashed off the bar and bounced away to saftey.

With only minutes left a howler of a decision to let play carry on by referee Dave Morecombe sealed any chance of a come back. With central defender Nick Edwards injured and laided out in his own penalty area, play was allowed to continue from the Bibury half resulting in a fourth goal. Instead of the normal curtesy stoppage for injury, Morecombe allowed play to develop with Edwards clearly in an a position interfering with play.

Top of the table Bibury certainly knew they had been a game

23/01/10 Away The Beeches Res  v Ashton Keynes Res

Ashton Keynes Res 2 The Beeches Res 1  ( Junior Charities )

The last time The Beeches played was back on the 12 December 2009 due to the severe frost and the snow that has devasted the whole of the UK.

Not surprisingly the home draw was transfered to Ashton Keynes because Kingshill Sports complex was again not playable because of waterlogging.

Beeches started very slowly and players struggled to but two passes together giving Ashton the edge in the early exchanges. Edlington at full-back especially found life hard up against a pacey winger. While the growing campaign to get the Gonz Garner a start at the back paid dividends as he was by far the teams best defender in the first period.

Although Ashton had a lot of the ball they never really troubled the visitors defence and when they did there shooting left alot to be desired. Beeches were to open the scoring when the Ashton defence was caught trying to apply the off side trap. From the half way line Graham Robinson back from his short spell with Fairford Town calmly drew the keeper before rounding him to score.

In the next ten minutes Beeches should have been two or three to the good. From a Robinson cross to the far post top goal scorer Hanks got a good finish in at a tight angle only to see his effort which had crossed the line be cleared by the home keeper. With no help from the club linesman Jimmy Gibson referee Den Jones was given no option but to carry on with play as he was not in a good enough postion to decide if it was a goal.

The second half was an even affair for 15 minutes until a harmless looking run by the Ashton winger saw him get to the by line. This resulted in Central defender Garner making a poor decision to challenge. From his mistimed tackle the equaliser came about via the penalty spot.

With the introduction of two wingers from the bench Beeches railed for a short period with Chris Robinson and Danny Gudger both seeing the ball. Beeches won a few corners. As the game progressed into the final 10 minutes some players fitness were in doubt and it was Ashton that was to be rewarded after some slack marking gave them the chance of the winner which was well taken

Man of the match :

6/02/2010  The Beeches Res  6  Poulton Res  1

The Beeches Res playing at home for the first time in over two months , were to make hard work of beating a under strength Poulton team. The boggy pitch and some poor finishing were to blame and although the final score was quite convincing the actual tally should have been a lot more.

The Beeches were to open the scoring when a good move down the wing resulted in Saul Ricketts finding the eager run from midfield general Elliot Carmelo Fonte. His run took him into the path of the inch perfect pass giving him time to strike the ball low past the out stretched hand of keeper Gary Morris

This was quickly followed by a second, a penalty which was put away by skipper Hanks keeping up his goal a game ratio. Many chances by the home side were then squandered with both posts and cross bar being hit. With young  Gary Morris also in fine form between the sticks the score line was kept respectable. Poulton got back into the match when Tony Gordon mistimed a clearance allowing Poulton's speedy forward the chance to charge down his kick and roll the ball into the empty net to make it 2-1.

This gave Poulton some belief and for the next 15/20 minutes in the second half they pushed for the equaliser, but Matt King moving from his full back position into midfield was to score with a shot under the keeper down by the post. Poulton thought they were in with a chance when awarded a penalty. But the effort was well saved by Saul Ricketts who had taken over from keeper Gordon.

Poulton heads seemed to drop as Beeches ran in another three goals in closing moments Graham Robinson twice and Matt King completing the scoring

Report to follow:

27/02/10   Chalford 1 The Beeches 1

Beeches having not played the week before started slowly but were soon on the attack mainly from the right back area where Edlington was finding room and space.

Keeper Tony Gordon was to suffer a broken finger as early as the fifth minute but managed to see out the whole of the ninety minutes.

The opening goal came after 12 minutes when top goal scorer Matt Hanks made it 14 goals in 13 appearances. Elliot Carmelo Fonte making one of his trade mark burst from the centre of the park threaded the ball through to Hanks who's run put him clear of his marker, seeing the keeper advancing he duly dispatched his 30 yard effort over the keeper and into the empty net.

On top and looking forward to another three points Beeches 3 minutes later were to be reduced to 10 men when Mark Stephens was sent off.

Although down to ten men the home side still looked second best as Beeches back four of Edlington, Garner, Sykes and Cuss looked to have Chalfords attacking options covered while Ricketts and Fonte were controlling the middle of the park.

Chalford were to equalise after 25 mintes from a corner kick when there 6 foot 6 center forward headed home.

Beeches reacted well and the second half it was all Beeches pressure, but the main problem with out the extra man Beeches could not quite find the final ball to create the opening to score.

Chalford became frustrated and could not get to grips with being under pressure from the 10 man Beeches. Alot of silly niggly fouls were being comitted and allowed to go unpunished by referee Morecombe which did not help matters.

Chances were far between but the ten man of The Beeches can be satisfied with there efforts.

Beeches men of the match : The impressive Pete Sykes in only his second full game and the experienced Saul Ricketts. While it was good to see Ched Edlington returning to his best.

The cat Gordon is waiting to see the surgeon this week to determine whether or not his finger needs operating on. The lads wish him well

06/03/10  Minety 1 The Beeches Res 2

With players dropping out left right and centre the squad was put to the test as they travelled to play second in the table Minety. With no keeper, the captain unwell after a night on the town and others away on business and Gudger not affording a bus pass the team did well to take all three points and keep up the clubs good run of results.

Drafted into the team at late notice came  Dan Risby who partnered Tommy Waters in the middle of the park. While gentle pursuation from the General meant Jamie Curtis took over the goal keeping duties for the afternoon. While this allowed a rare start for super sub Dan Hanks. With four possible captains unavailable it was left to the talkative Jamie Want to skipper the side.

After a good humerous warm up the team started well. And It was evident from the start that strikers Want and Robinson had the better of thier markers and raids down the right wing in particular brought King into action. Chances began to come thick and fast and Matt King was to strike and upright before seeing a crashing volley narrowly miss the target.

At the back  Ched Edlington, Gonz Garner, Pete Sykes and Josh Cuss looked to cut out most of Minety's direct approach football. And when called apon Jamie Curtis produced some good saves.

Half time saw the score line read 0-0

After the break Beeches were to open the scoring after a cross to the far post was headed back by King. Coming in at the back stick was Robinson to score a real poachers goal. Within another ten minutes Robinson made it 2-0 with a fine solo goal. Picking the ball up out wide he cut in beat the defender , rounder the keeper and at a tight angle place the ball high into the Minety net for a great goal.

With the improving Edlington struggling with a hamstring, manager Russell Jones prepared his long warm up with the expectations of making his first appearance for some years.

The game was becoming stretched and chances were falling at both ends. Beeches should have wrapped up the contest but had a header cleared off the line and also missed an open goal. Want did have the ball in the Minety net when he scored from the edge of the penalty area only to be ruled off side

With some payers struggling for fitness Minety made a late rally to get back into the game and they struck with 15 left with a 30 yarder

Beeches continued to play open football and came out worthy winners

13/03/10  The Beeches Res 1 Ashton Res 3 ( Dom O'Neill )

Match report to follow please:

27/03/10 Ashton Keynes Res 2 The Beeches Res 2

Having not played the weekend before because of the now famous drainage system at Kingshill Sports Complex again failing, this late fixture change ment the reserves would be garranted at least a run out

The game was a good even fought contest which Beeches could have sneaked if but for some poor goal scoring oppuntunities being wasted.

With a tactical switch at the back Beeches started poorly and were one down inside ten minutes. Beeches old boy Toby Larkin finding a rare turn of foot to latch onto a good through ball and beat stand in keeper Steve Bond with a low drive to his left. The tactical change that never worked was soon eradicated.

The desereved equaliser soon followed when Dom Oneill back for a few weeks from his uni- rehab latched onto a poor defensive mistake. He could have easily went down as the Ashton defender fouled him in the box, not wanting to get a fellow player sent off he stood up and rounded the keeper before stroking home.

Ched Edlington was now begining to make his trade mark over laps and from one of them he picked out O'Neill's head. His header hitting the upright and then scrambled to saftey.

1-1 was a fair half time score line

The second half started slowly but then Beeches won a penalty when King was up ended. With top goal scorer Hanks on holiday tackling the Alpine slopes it was left to the experienced Saul Ricketts ,three times Watermoor school penalty shoot out champion to step up to the plate. Having never missed he calmly dispatched the ball into the corner of net to make it 2-1

The Beeches bench only carrying two subs, both defenders were soon drawn into action. First O'Neill limped off with a groin strain followed soon after by Dan Risby with the same injury.

With Sutton doing all the play making for Ashton and Ricketts for the Beeches the game began to get stretched. Old boy Toby Larkin this time again made a good run out wide right and fired in a shot which soon became the best pass of the season when he found his fellow striker unmarked at the back post for a simple tap in

Credit to The Beeches with subs Gonz Garner and Nick Edwards doing well.

In the closing minutes both subs went close to scoring

07/04/10   Corinium Sports 1 The Beeches Res 2 ( Stephens, Eagles )

This was a game Beeches dominated and but for some fine goal keeping from Bennett in the home goal the score line could have easily been trebled.

A series of corner kicks and crosses provided by Chris Robinson caused mayhem in the penalty area of Corinium with most chances falling to Dom O'Neill who seemed to be a bit ring rusty after this years adventures at uni, Dom heading over several times instead of working the keeper.

The opening goal did however come from an unlikely source from his strike partner for the night. Due to injuries up front  Mark Stephens partnered O'Neill and it was from a set play that Stephens opened the scoring with a good header.

Corinium were reduced to the odd attack but did manage to equalise from a corner when a Parks header was deflected past keeper Bond by central defender Tom Garner.

Half time 1-1

The second period Beeches created and missed chances at regular intervals with again O'Neill failing to add to the score line. Jamie Curtis winning alot of ball at left full back and providing sub Nick Edwards it seemed only a matter of time before the second goal would come. Again the inform Bennett was producing save after save.

The winner finally came from Mike Eagles when he latched onto the ball and from the edge of the box shot through a crowded area to find the bottom corner.

The remainder of the match was played out quite comfortably with Corinium not showing too much going forward to worry the solid back four of King, Ricketts, Garner & Curtis

10/04/10  Lechlade 3 The Beeches Res 3 ( Stephens, Waters, Fonte )

This season The Beeches Res have shown great character in being able to come from behind. Both games against CHQ United prime examples.

With Mark Warriner giving up his first team duties as central defender to help out with the goal keeping problem the club have just shows what team spirit the club has. And Mark was to produce a good all round performance not only with a save pair of hands but his ability to organise the back four of Edlington, Ricketts, Garner & Curtis.

This game was always going to be difficult because in Ashley Andrews Lechlade have a real goal threat. Beeches could and should have taken the lead when Gudger was clean through but could only poke the ball past the upright.

Nick Edwards also had a good chance but it was Andrews good work down the right wing that saw his cut back divert passed the outstretched hands of keeper Warriner only to see the ball fall into the path of the unmarked Lechlade striker to score with a diving header.

1-0 half- time

The second half was much the same with both teams competing well but again it was the lively Andrews who forced a penalty after his pace saw him beat central defender Ricketts to the ball ,toe ending it past him bringing about the late tackle which resulted in Andrews making it 2-0 from the penalty spot

At 2-0 the spirit was still good and with Fonty & Jamie Curtis in particular winning a lot of tackles this made others around raise their games.

With nothing to lose the team forced the play and threw men forward and it was the adventerous Tommy Waters who was to hit an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box high into the top right hand corner.

Again that man Andrews was to strike this time with a great header heading the ball into the far corner of the net

Enter hit man Stinky Stephens after scoring midweek he produced a wonder goal volleying home after turning on a sixpence and firing the ball high into the Lechlade net from 15 yards.

With time running out and barely time to take what would be the last corner of the match. The instructions from the management to put the ball into the six yard box paid dividends. The inspirational Elliot Carmelo Fonte came storming in to rifle a bullet header home from 4 yards. His goal celebration taking him high on the all time hit list.

This was a great team effort & the Beeches men of the match :

15/04/10  The Beeches Res 7  Down Ampney 3

( G.Robinson 2, C.Haynes 2, M.Stephens, E.Fonte, D.O'Neill )

This midweek fixture was played on a lightening fast surface and turned out to be a very comfortable win for the home side. The Beeches were to lead by 3-1 by half time.

With Dom O'Neill & Graham Robinson leading the attack Down Ampney struggled to combat the ariel power of O'Neill and the speed and movement of Robinson.

The game nearly never got started after another adminstration cock up by the league meant that no referee turned up. Thanks to Frank Prosser & Mark Lee the game went ahead with both players refereeing the game between them.

The Fonty kept up his good run of goal scoring of late to open the scoring when he bundled the ball home direct from a corner. Robinson finished well to make it 2-0

Down Ampney  reduced the scoreline to 2-1 when Chris Hatter beat the advancing Lee to score with a neat lob. Within minutes the inform Mark Stephens scored the goal of the match , one worthy of winning any game. Picking the ball up in the centre of the park he drove forward and let go a right footer that sailed into the top corner of the Ampney net. A goal of such quality was last seen at the county ground scored by Kenny Stroud (ask Simon Warriner about that one)

The second half produced much the same O'Neill finally getting in on the act followed by Robinson racing clear and scoring.

With Beeches attacking at will they left the rear guard unattended at times and were to let two softies in. Chris Hatter & Carl Prosser making the most of an indisciplined back four.

Chris Haynes on a sub was to score twice to rap up a good 7-3 win.

Man of the match : Mark Stephens ( Stinky to his mates )

17/04/10   South Cerney Res  1  The Beeches Res 4

The home side Cerney should have been the fresher of the two teams because Beeches had only played 48 hours earlier, but after the first opening 10 minutes Beeches went onto dominate the match. Matt King and Nick Edwards were making great runs down the right flank and opening up the slow Cerney back four who were playing a suicidal high line on a big pitch.

With Ricketts & Fonte dominating the play from the centre of the park it was not long before the opening goal came. What was unusual was the scorer. It came from a rare start from Dan Hanks who raced clear out wide left and found the deaftest of lobs to beat the advancing Cerney keeper.

With Josh Cuss, Garner, Edwards & Edlington in fine form at the back they formed the basis of this good victory. Dom O'Neill back form his holiday at uni was far too good for the Cerney centre halfs and he was too make it 2-0 after King had broke free and pulled the ball back for O'Neill to finish.

Ricketts & Edwards should have increased the score line

The second half Beeches again dominated play restricting Cerney to the odd break away attack. When the third goal went in scored by O'Neill the home team were more intent on playing the man and not the ball. But some weak refereeing by Fortune did not help matters.

James King pulled one back from the penalty spot after keeper Mark Lee ( Scottie to all that have know him for years was adjudged to have fouled )

Dom O'Neill rounded off the scoring after Smith had tried to pull him to the ground, being strong and having ability in abundance he merely road the challenge before firing home in off the cross bar to complete a well deserved hat-trick

The Beeches men of the match : Dom O'Neill & Elliot Fonte

20/4/10  The Beeches Res  2  Real Fairford 3

With Real Fairford still chasing the title Beeches welcomed back skipper Matt Hanks and with in 10 minutes the home side were ahead after Nick Edwards who for most of the season has been playing central defender has in recent games dues to injuries been playing wide left.

Nick out paced the Real right back and put in a delightfull cross right into the path of leading goal scorer Hanks. His first toach was to control the ball and the second to place it past the advancing keeper

Real then began to get first to the ball and started to create chances with out really testing kepeer Lee. The equaliser came after a rebound clearance fell into the path of the left wing who immediately crashed the ball past Lee

The next two goals came from sloppy defending at corners. An own goal from Fonte followed by a good header. Beeches were still making chances and Hanks hit the side netting

The second half was all Beeches and they should have at least got something out of the game. Ben Stevens having two great chances to score. Nick Edwards was breaking free and he finally got his name on the score sheet for the second time this season when he beat his man and scored at the near post past the on rushing keeper.

Beeches pressed forward for the rest of the match but couldnt find that elusive equaliser as they either shot wide or at times never pulled the trigger when in good goal scoring postions.

The Beeches man of the match : Josh Cuss

24/04/10  The Beeches Res 1 Minety 0  ( Nick Edwards )

Full of confidence an inform Beeches team completed the double over second place Minety. The game was evenly matched with both sides finding goal scoring chances limited. This was mainly due to both defences being in good order. With top goal scorer Matt Hanks failing a late fitness test it was unfortunate he was forced again to watch from the side lines

Replacing him was the globe troting Gudger who was back from honey moon duties. With chances few and far between and some in indifferent line calls Beeches found it hard to break the dead lock.

The back four of Edlington, Graner, Cuss & Curtis are begining to forge a good solid unit. While Fonty & Ricketts work rate is making up for the loss of the suspended live wire Stephens.

Half time 0-0

The second half Beeches were slowly begining to find some space and looked more threatening with Edwards and King out wide. The deadlock was finally broken when keeper Mike Triggs was caught advancing only to see Edwards find the perfect lob to score.

In the dying minutes both teams were pressing and Beeches should have made the game safe when Gudger rounded the keeper, driven wide he managed to  produced the most delightful of crosses to the far post to find super sub Tony Gordon who was on for the injured Stevens. Having played in goal all season Tony was surprised that the magician Gudger was able to put the ball on a plate for him.

With panic rushing through his veins and the goal unattended the thought of celebrating his first goal for the club made it almost impossible for him to score as he headed over from six yards.

With only a minute left on the clock Minety did manage to get the ball into the net. But with referee Meakin & linesman well placed the goal was ruled out as three Minety players were clearly all in an off side postion.

The Beeches men of the match : Josh Cuss & Nick Edwards

27/04/10   The Beeches Res 1 Stratton United Res 1  ( Gudger )

Stratton United had seeked permission with The Beeches consent to play four first team players to make up the numbers or else the game would have been postponed. The Beeches were in agreement only if they could do the same if short.

What looked like being a certain three points on paper after Stratton had   conceded 18 goals in there last two games turned out different due to the team changes allowed. After little or no warm up Beeches started slowly letting in a goal after only three minutes. Jamie Curtis was forced into goalkeeping duties after a late withdrawl, but the opener was a good effort from the edge of the box finding the bottom right hand corner of the net.

It was nice to have Danny Gudger back after a lenghtly spell out with injury and his ability to beat a player was evident early on. With Matt Hanks still struggling with his tight hamstring he was forced to play due to the shortage of players.

Matt King & Tommy Waters formed a new partnership in the middle of the park while the goal scoring Edwards had to go back to his defences duties with some what of a sulk.

Tony Gordon the regular keeper who had broken his finger against Chalford made a rare start outfield. And put in a lot of hard work for the team. But with the shortage of wide men fitness was the key question. But Tony did a great stint for the team for 50 minutes and will be a lot fitter next time out.

The game never really got going with the normal passion and drive missing from The Beeches lads. The second half did produce a better show and Stratton were forced back although not many chances were being created. But it was the lively Gudger who found the equaliser when he volleyed home from the edge of the box with a sweet lefty beating first choice keeper Derbyshire.

Gudger ten minutes later then rattled the Stratton bar with another great effort. While at the other end Jamie Curtis who's influence at the back was missing having had to take the gloves produced the save of the match with a great reflex save from close in.

They were again consistant performances from the central partnership of Garner & Cuss but the man of the match went to the Gudger

The Beeches man of the match : Danny Gudger

06/05/10  The Beeches Res 4 Avonvale United Res 2

( M.Hanks 2, D.O'Neill, N.Edwards )

This result shows how far the reserve team have come this season after losing 8-1 in the away match.

With the first team improving leaps and bounds and new and old blood returning to the club the quality of player has improved. The foundation for this win was the solid and well organised back four of Edlington, Garner, Sykes & Curtis.

Avonvale have been one of the front runers all season and have still ambitions of taking the runner/up slot. But with top goal scorer & skipper in Matt Hanks back, partnering the quality O'Neill it was never going to be easy for a young in experienced Avonvale team to get the three points on offer.

It was Hanks who found the net after 15 minutes as he was put through on goal by the inform Gudger. Drawing the keeper Matt picked his spot

It soon became 2-0 when a Gudger cross found Dom O'Neill who headed against the post, with the rebound falling to Hanks he some how managed to bundle the ball home.

Stand in keeper Stevie Wonder Bond had got the late call up and showed great awareness & agility to keep out the long range efforts from Avonvale.

Half time 2-0

Beeches came out of the blocks a bit slowly and were to concede when a through ball split the defence allowing Blackah to score. The equaliser followed when a drive from distance from Eddols saw a bad bounce beat the inform Bond.

At 2-2 this seemed to wake up a Beeches team that were playing perhaps a bit safe and they immediately retook the lead when a quick throw from Gudger found striker O'Neill who strood clear before dispatching the ball past the Avonvale keeper to make that 7 from 7 appearances.

It soon became four when Nick Edwards reverting back to his attacking role. went up for a corner.  Again the provider was Gudger who produced the perfect cross picking out Edwards who rose like a young salmon to powerfully head home into the roof of the net.

With Avonvale 56 goal striker Packer well marshalled and unable to find an effort all game credit goes to a great team effort and a much deserved win

The only disappointing news was Jamie Curtis broke his finger after it had been accidently stood on. ( Jamie is now in plaster )

The Beeches men of the match : Gudger for his four assists & the central defensive partnership of Garner & Sykes.

08/05/10  Real Fairford 2 The Beeches Res 1  ( O'Neill )

With half the team out because of charity events, injuries, motor racing & cricket The Beeches still had a good team out more than capable of winning this match.

The first half belonged to The Beeches and from the start they controlled the game with the experienced Ricketts & Yates winning plenty of the ball in the middle of the park. In Danny Gudger they had a real match winner who will be kicking himself for not taking one of the good chances that fell his way.

The Real Fairford keeper who is the first team keeper as well did make some fine saves. Des Tapp who was a handful all afternoon broke clear and the keeper saved well. Beeches also hit the post with the keeper well beaten.

At the other end Snowy Stevens made his debut in goal because of being injured out Thursday night. Ben was rarely threatened although Real did have a few breaks.

Dom O'Neill was to open the scoring making that 8 in 8 games. Back from uni Dom was called up because of the lack of players and as always a threat. He was put through on goal and easily beat the keeper with a class finish.

Gudger who was clearly onside swept the ball to make it 2-0. But the linesman ruled the goal out for another player being in an off side position.

With the defence sitting a bit too deep a rare mistake from the ultra consistant Sykes allowed the ball to bounce free to lively winger who raced clear and lobbed Stevens for the equaliser

The second half Beeches never really got going and Real were not much better still relying to hit on the break.

The equaliser came from Hadgkiss who was on as sub. Direct from a corner he was left unmarked and powered home a good header. Snowy Stevens did have to make two good saves while at the other end Beeches huffed and puffed with out really hitting the target. A long range effort from Ricketts was easily saved

This game was the tail of two halfs. The Beeches should have been out of site by half time but the second half Real played slightly better to earn three valuable points in their quest for the runner/up slot

The Beeches man of the match : Des Tapp
