Founded 1973:

The club was founded in the summer of 1973 by three local players, Mick Ricketts, Phil Coleman & Barry Curtis. Many of the players came from the successful Division 2 Championship winning Herd team.

The clubs first home ground was St Michaels Field one of the best playing surfaces in Cirencester. The club won promotion in their first season although they were promoted after finishing fourth. They soon established themselves as a good midtable team capable of beating anyone on there day. In 1977 the club introduced a reserve team for the first time. But the following season Cirencester Town council decided to turn St Michaels into a park this leaving the club homeless and in need of a ground.

With no help and no offer of any other alternative venue the club asked permission to play at City Bank. With no changing facilities the whole of the first team left except for one or two loyal players those included Mick Ricketts, Andy Kilby & Andy Humphries. The rest of the team was made up of several youngtsers having to step up to Division 1 football for the first time. It was a long season and a struggle which ended in relegation.

The 1978-79 season season saw the birth of London Road playing fields. After approaching the late Mr Chester-master he gave permission for the club to use the field which had been used for grazing land for his animals. The club bought an old 8 berth caravan from Southrop and coverted it into changing rooms. Extensive work was then done on the playing surface filling in trenches 100 metres long and re-seeding and stone picking for several weeks before the ground was playable.

Over the next few seasons the club built another changing room and then the Cirencester Town council bought the ground for a paltery £8,000 which was later to be sold for a staggering £1.7 million . And to this day the club has never been reimbursed or offered any compenstation for their work at the ground.

The 1978-79 season saw the club attract some former ex-pro's Roger Boyle ( Everton ) Dave Miller ( Glasgow Rangers) & Pete Buck ( West Ham United ) the team then played in Claret & Blue

The clubs first success was achieved by the clubs reserve team managed by the great Percy Coates. They went on to win the Primary cup 1979-80 beating Bradley's Reserves 4-1 at Cirencester Town's stadium at Tetbury Road. Goals from the late Colin Cooper 3 and Mick Townsend made sure the first silver ware was won.                                                                                              Winning team was M.Coleman, J.Coates, M.Hester, S.Mountain, N.Evans, F.Belton, M.Rowlands, S.Stancombe, C.Cooper, M.Townsend, R.Poulton sub R.Avis, A.Humphries

1980-81 both teams were promoted to Cirencester Div 1 & 2, the league at this time were running three divisons.

Because the club were forced to leave there ground at St Michaels field it meant a mass exit of players did not want to play at City Bank so they ended up back in Division 3 during the 1985-86 - The team finished runner/ups  played 20, won 15,drew 3, lost 2, goals 97, against 34, pts 33

They soon bounced back to Cirencester Division 1 when the team won the Cirencester Division 2 title in 1986-87 season. The title was rapped up with three games still to play and completed when they beat ru/ups Chedworth 6-1.

Played 24 , Won 18, Drew 2, lost 4, goals 72, against 32, pts 38

The club joined the Cheltenham League in 1990-01 season and were to stay for the next 14 seasons. They started in Cheltenham Divison 4 and the Reserves in Division 5. The club missed out on a few titles because of the promotion system. Clubs were forced to move up a division when finishing 3rd to make up the numbers in the divisions above.

The team got promoted to division 3 in his first season 1993-04.

The exciting side with a mixture of youth and experience was to finish runners/up to the might Bassalona. And there are not many local clubs who can say they have done that. The team also reached the Junior cup Final playing opponents Endsleigh from the division above. The game went to extra time after goals from Mark Higginson and Bob Howard had made the score line 2-2.  With the last kick of the match Endsleigh's Kevin Mansell scored the winner.

First team Cheltenham record:

1991 -92 Promoted Div 4 - Div 3 ,1992 - 93 Relegated back to Div 4, 1993-94 Promted back to Div 3 r/ups - also r/ups in Junior Cup, 1994-95 promoted to Div 2 having finished 5th,
