MATCH REPORTS SEASON 2010 -11

12/09/10 Home The Beeches u16 v Cleeve Colt Rovers

The Beeches 2 Cleeve Colt Rovers 0

The Beeches continued where they left off last week, playing their neat style of football but were unable to penetrate newly promoted Cleeve Colts goal. This resulted in 0-0 score at half-time

The second half saw  much of the same with both teams cancelling each other out. It was only in the last 15 minutes that The Beeches took the game from Cleeve by still playing their football and their superior fitness began to show.

With Tom Jehu's free kicks causing mayhem in the Cleeve penalty area it was only a matter of time before Beeches struck. It was another pin point cross from the Jehu boot that picked out Tim Bond run into the crowded box.

His brave header beating the Cleeve goal keeper to open the scoring.

The home teams second goal was a special from Charlie Needham. Producing  skill and trickery, turning the Cleeve defender inside and out he hit an unstoppable shot which flew into the top corner from 30 yards to wrap up the game which until then was a very tight affair.

19/09/10 Away Badsley Rangers v The Beeches

Badsley Rangers 2 The Beeches 2

This Sunday saw The Beeches travel away to play Badsley Rangers who had beaten them 3-1 a fortnight ago in a very close encounter.

The Beeches knew that they would have to be at there best as they would be facing apponents that were much bigger and stronger and there physical presence a major problem.

They soon found themselves 1-0 down and with the inspirational Fletcher having to leave the field of play through injury a reshuffle meant that Dan Watton came on to replace him. It was Watton who set up the equaliser when he found the inch perfect pass, splitting the Badlsey back line he found the inform Charlie Needham who drove the ball low and hard into the bottom corner of the net.

The hard working Tim Bond was now begining to show his physical strength and technical ability and slowly took command of the centre of the park, dictating the play.

This battling display from Bond set up the the tricky Needham who in return showed a clean pair of heels, dancing around his opponent he hit another quality goal giving the Badsley keeper no chance.

With Beeches leading 2-1 and the clock ticking down a cruel blow 10 minutes from time cost them the three points they deserved. Badsley's striker was given the easiest of finishes, tapping in after the unlucky Robinson failed to clear the ball off the line.

The Beeches man of the match : Max Steadman

26/09/10 Away F.C Lakeside v The Beeches

F.C Lakeside 3 The Beeches 1

The Beeches travelled to title chasers F.C Lakeside and were to take the lead through the in-form Charlie Needham who scored another quality goal when picking the ball up twenty yards out he noticed the home keeper of his line, the finish can best be discribed as a clinical finish to take his goal tally to four for the season.

With Tim Bond putting in a good workman like performance in mid-field  others were dropping like flies through injury and it soon became one way traffic with Lakeside forward Curtis Burrows running the show.

However Lakeside struggled to beat the outstanding Brad James who was in splendid form between the sticks producing a number of good saves coming from the speedy Burrows.

Lakeside's persistance was rewarded with three well-taken goals from L.Hyde, S.James and Lakesides man of the match Burrows.

3/10/10  The Beeches v Cleeve Colts

The Beeches 1 Cleeve Colts 2

The Beeches were unable to stop the rot and there second defeat in the league came at the hands of Cleeve Colts who were to take the lead against the run of play. With The Beeches unable to find their normal flowing football they were guilty of being caught out again and went behind 2-0

With time now running out a tactical change saw Fletcher move up front and it was his presence on the keeper which gave the home side a lifeline. From a Jehu free kick and with Fletcher standing firm the ball fell invitingly for Beeches leading marksman Charlie Needham to score his 5th goal in as many games. Beeches continued to press for the equaliser, but to no avail

10/10/10  The Beeches v FC Lakeside

The Beeches 1 FC Lakeside 3

When some clubs are struggling to find referee's the Cheltenham league must have plenty in abundance, as two referee's turned up to referee this fixture.

After previously having been beaten by Lakeside it wasa case of deja vue when Lakeside took the lead early on in the match through Curtis Burrows.

The home team only threatened the Lakeside goal on rare occasions. However Beeches found the break through when Tom Jehu found the run of Steadman to head home. With the home team unable to handle the front man Burrows, his pace got him away from his marker to cross to the unmarked Hyde who scored. Burrows added a third when he once again out paced The Beeches back line to score his second and Lakesides third to put an end to the Beeches cup run.

LECKHAMPTON U 16 0 THE BEECHES U 16 9

The lads produced a quality performance with no less than eight different goal scorers in a match that soon became a one sided affair.

Outstanding midfield play was the key to the win. Johnny Barham and Adam Mansell running the game with goals coming at regular interval. Burgess opened the scoring and Liam Cook headed a second. Martin Bartlett then scored direct from a corner before Johnny Barham made it 4-0 at half-time.

Billy Deacon, Baker, Rowan 2 and man of the match Adam Mansell completed the scoring to make that two wins out two in the league.

27/9/09         THE BEECHES 1 CHELTENHAM SARACENS 3

The Beeches despite at times playing some lovely football went down to a defeat in a game that at times was to say at the least feisty.

Saracens took the lead midway through the first half and then increased the lead just before half time. Both goals punishing defensive errors.

The home side tried desperately to get back into the game but despite some good passing they failed to create any real chances. 15 minutes before the end Cheltenham Sararcens wrapped up the points by adding a third goal. Baker then produced a run which was finished by Johnny Barham to give the home side a deserved consalation goal.

04/10/09       THE BEECHES 0 CHELTENHAM SARACENS B 6

With keeper Waddell away a revamped Beeches conceded five first half goals despite having a great deal of the possesion in the first half an hour. Again defensive nievity caused problems against the run of play. Beeches managed to hit the cross bar twice and never had any luck in front of goal.

Two more goals by Saracens effectively ended any hope for the home team but a better second half performance created chances for Johnny Barham, Liam Cook and Rowan but a mixture of good goal keeping and the woodwork again stopped Beeches scoring. Cheltenham Saracens finished the game with a goal into stoppage time

Credit must go to  Liam Cook and Alex Noyes who shared the goal keeping duties and to the whole team for not giving up.

Man of the match Johnny Barham

18/10/09       THE BEECHES 5  KINGS STANLEY 1

The under 16 team got back to winning ways but made hard work of a game they should have dominted from start to finish. For some reason some players attitudes were not good. One player on top of his form was Martin Bartlett who had a great game down the right.

Stanley took the lead against the run of play and it was an own goal from another good run and cross from Martin Bartlett that brought the equaliser

Strong words at half time from the management team of Gareth Noyes and  Brain Cook got the response that was needed and the second half saw the team dominate Martin Bartlett and Adam Burgess scoring a brace a piece.

Stand in keeper Alex Noyes had little to do but Beeches should have converted more chances

8/11/09        CLEEVE COLTS U16  0  THE BEECHES U16   5

Afine performance by the Beeches saw them score five goals without conceding

Martin Bartlett opened the scoring and Rowan made it 2-0 just before half time. Huw Humphreys was the 4th keeper used this season because of the unavailablity of the regular keeeper and was to put in a fine performance.

The defence of Liston, Szczerkowski, Alex Noyes and Billy Deacon gave the team a solid back line. Adam Burgess got the third goal and Rowan scored his second to make the score 4-0. Liam Cook made sure of the points with number 5 to complete a comfortable victory

Man of the match  Huw Humphreys

06/12/09       ST MARKS U16   2  THE BEECHES U16 7

The Beeches produced a good performance on a bogy pitch and were to run out comfortable 7-2 winners.

However St Marks did not go down with out a fight and Tom Waddel in the Beeches goal was called apoun to make some fine saves allowing his team mates to edge the contest.

The Beeches welcomed back Will Power and he responded with a goal in the fifth minute. Rowan added a second before Power and Bartlett got the third and fourth.

Liston , Rowan and Noyes completed the scoring with St Marks getting a couple of consolation goals

Man of the match : Sam Rowan

13/12/09        THE BEECHES U16  8  ST MARKS U16 2

In this reverse fixture Beeches went one goal better than the previous weeks score but struggled to get to grips with the game in the early period of the first half.

Credit must go to St Marks who showed great spirit having turned up to play the fixture with only ten men and too thier credit they took the lead altough against the run of play. Johnny Barham equalised and St Marks again responded well and took a 2-1 lead.Liam Cook and an own goal gave Beeches a 3-2 half time lead.

The second half saw the home side take control and further goals followed from Dike, Deacon, Noyes and two more from Cook completing his hat-trick.

This result puts Beeches into joint second place in the division with all to play for.

Man of the match : Adam Burgess

14/2/10      THE BEECHES 1 QUEDGLEY 2

The Beeches under 16 team certainly underperformed in this game and deserved to be a goal down at half-time.

The usual strong central midfield partnership of Barham and Mansell were at times over run. They did however have the ball in their opponents net twice both goals being scored by Liam Cook. Only on each occasion to ruled out for being off side.

A further goal midway through the second period looked to have settled the match. However this seemed to spark Beeches into life and Martin Bartlett produced a fine individual goal to make the game interesting. Some tough unrelenting tackling then took place and despite Bartlett hitting the crossbar Beeches could not find the equaliser.

Man of the match : William Power

07/03/10  KINGS STANLEY 1 THE BEECHES 8

The Beeches u16 got back to winning ways against a Kings Stanley side who were 1 point above them in there league table. On a bumpy pitch The Beeches tried to play a good passing game. After only a minute defender Huw Humphreys opended the scoring when he bundled the ball home from close range following a corner kick. It was another 30 minutes before Beeches struck again this time from the boot of William Power who struck the perfect shot direct from a 25 yard free kick giving the home keeper no chance as his shot flew into the top corner.

However 2-0 down Kings Stanley never gave up and where to pull one back from the centre spot when a good cross into the Beeches box saw central defender Huw Humphreys blantently foul the home side centre forward.

The Beeches started to control the game from that moment on, passing from defence to midfield was good and on 39 minutes Sam Rowan scored a good team goal that involved Cross, Barham, Mansell and Power in particular. Going in at 1-3 at half time encouraged The Beeches and the second half was dominated by them. Having travelled to the match with the bare eleven because of three cry offs in the morning Beeches did well from number 1 to 11.

Just after half time on 47 minutes Rowan added his second when he popped up to score.

The chances came thick and fast but lack of composure meant several were missed. On 55 minutes another good move down the left starting with Noyes then Cross, through the midfield without Stanley touching the ball resulted in Adam Mansell cooley passing the ball past the keeper for another fine goal.

Good pressure paid dividends for the final goal from Chris Dike who was in the right place at the right time tapping home from 1 yard
